Snakes And Ladders

WALT combine prior and new knowledge to come up with new ideas

This week we were reading a story called "The Game" and it was about kids fighting aliens in space for real but they were doing it in an arcade! Our follow up for this week was to make a Snakes and Ladders game about the battle between the kids an the aliens. We also had to make instructions for the game.

This was actually really hard for me because I couldn't come up with anything to do with the rules and I still don't think that it's good but here is my Snakes and Ladders board game!


I'm sorry that it's not really easy to see but the colour improves it!

RULES!!

You will need the following to play this game: 1 dice, 2 jellybeans that will represent the alien and human!

1) When the second person goes if they land on the same square as the other person that means that the other person gets to move up the ladder and the second person needs to go down the snake or if there is no snake stay in the same place and if there is no ladder near then the other person can move 3 squares forward!

2) When someone is close to the end then you need to have a game of paper, scissors, rock and the one that wins, say the person close to the 100, they are the winners but if they don't win they have to move back 10 squares while the other person gets to move up 10 squares and that's the only time they can do paper, scissors, rock!

(I'm sorry if my rules are really confusing because I didn't really know what rules I should put and  I just came up with this while writing it) :)

In The Picture: Gus Sinaumea Hunter, Illustrator

This week my reading group was reading "In The Picture: Gus Sinaumea Hunter, Illustrator"
This book was about his life and how he came to be an illustrator and in the last page he has some tips for drawing, so in our Synthesis work we had to illustrate a picture and use some of his tips!

I illustrated a picture from my Hansel and Gretel story where the Step mom (Delilah) comes and saves the kids from the Witch.

Tips I used: Visualize a picture in your head before you start drawing. Draw what you see, not what you think you see and When adding colour, work your way from the background to the foreground of a picture.

At the beginning I thought we just had to draw a picture so I drew a cupcake but then my teacher told me what it meant and I drew this!

I'm sorry that the picture isn't really clear but this is the best I could make it 








MARKET DAY!

This coming Friday our school will be holding a Market Day which will be starting at 2 pm and ending at 4 pm. Every class will be selling their own things and the profit that we make from it will be going to our end of class prize! 

In class we have been talking about profits and how much we will have to spend on the things that we are going to sell! We have decided that we will be selling Spiders which is a fizzy drink with ice cream on top, waffles, which have 2 different prices because there will be waffles with just sauce and waffles with sauce ice cream and sprinkles! We are also doing Pie face as well and  Briquettes that we have made ourselves. The last thing that we are doing is Wet Sponges, which we are going to be throwing wet sponges at the Kiwi Can Leaders which will be exciting! The last thing that we will be doing is guessing how much lollies there are in the lolly jar.

After we had decided what we were going to make we were put in groups to make posters of the item that we will be selling and in my group we had to make posters on Spiders! Everyone in my group had to make separate posters on this item. If you want to check out the other posters for the different items you can go to our class blog to go on their separate blogs!

On this day as well our class is holding a Mufti Day and you have to bring a gold coin donation as well. The reason we are doing this is to raise money for our Kapa Haka uniforms!

The True Story Of Hansel And Gretel

Last week on Friday the senior school had the opportunity to go to The Royal New Zealand Ballet. We went to go and watch the story of Hansel and Gretel. We were lucky enough to only have to bring $2.00 for the whole thing and we got to watch the second part of the story so when we came there was a lady and she talked about the first half of the story and what had happened before.

The reason why we decided to write our own story is because while we were watching the ballet we noticed that some things in the ballet weren't the same from the actual story so everyone decided to make their own story. 

Something I enjoyed from the ballet was that it was peaceful but also there was some tension as well in some parts. Something I didn't really like were the costumes of the gingerbread men because they looked a lot like clowns and it was actually really scary at the beginning.

(The “Witches” Point Of View)

 It all started when a little old lady saw these 2 kids trying to EAT her cottage.. (“Mmm. Don’t they just look delicious! Especially that boy!”) “NO. STOP IT.” This lady was a normal woman until one day she made a deal with a demon but it went wrong and now he was living inside of her, trying to take control of her body…. It was okay now because she still was strong enough to overpower him so he wasn’t able to. Yet. He was growing stronger and stronger by the day but wanted to keep it a secret.

She was a little old lady living in the forest in a cozy cottage and it was made of bricks but it seemed that one day as she was coming home from town she had witnessed two little kids (supposedly siblings) trying to eat her cottage. She brought them in and fed them maybe she spoiled them a bit but it looked as if they hadn’t eaten anything in days.

“Are you guys still a bit hungry or do you want to go to bed now?”
“I think I could use some chicken actually, please.” Hansel was always the big eater and never knew when to stop.
“I’m actually full right now Miss! Thank you for the food! I’ll get to bed now!” Gretel was the polite one. She always had manners and was very pleasing.
(“Oooh. CHICKEN. That sounds appetising. How about we change HIM into chicken!”)
(“NO. I already told you that you will never be able to control me EVER. Get that information planted in your head already.”)
(“Oh really. Hehe. I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now! I didn’t think you’ve noticed but, I’ve been building up quite a lot of power everyday till now. I’m finally gonna take over this body!”) (“Wait.. What do yo-”)

*GASP*

*CRACK*

“Ahhhh. Much better. I feel so FREE!”
“Are you okay Miss? I was worried. It looked like you were going to have a heart attack just before.” “Oh. I’m feeling just fine. Heh
“Woah. Is your throat okay. Your voice sounds raspy. Maybe you need a drink of water.”
“I’M FINE. But you won’t be very soon.”
“What are you sa-”
“I’ve been having a craving for chicken lately but you will have to do” 
“HUUHHH”
“Hush. I’m just going to tie you up!"
“HEY. WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING TO MY BROTHER”
“Oh. Gretel! You’ve decided to join the party! Be a darl and heat up the stove for me please. We’re going to have a feast.”
“I’m not letting you cook my BROTHER. ARE YOU MAD!!!”
“Just do as I say and you might not end up the same way as your brother will in a few minutes. Now. Hustle.”

(Narrator)

 Gretel was a very smart girl coming from a poor family and she was a very bold and confident person that loved her family and wouldn’t go down without a fight.
“Miss. Can you please teach me how to do this please.”
“Ahh. You’re finally coming to your senses now.”
“Yes. I’ve decided that since you’ve been so kind this is how I repay you.”
(“Just keep smiling Gretel. It’ll all be over soon.”)
“Here let me do it while you go season up your brother”
“Okay”
(“It’s actually working!”)
“Ooh. It’s really hot! He’s going to cook so fa- *PUSH*AHHHHHH”
*SLAM*
*GASP*

“ I can’t believe I did that… I CAN’T BELIEVE I DID THAT!!! It actually worked! My plan actually worked!”
“Let’s go home Hansel”
 “Mmmmm”
“Oh. That’s right. Oops sorry. Nearly forgot”
*SNAP*
“There you go”
“Ahhhh. Thanks Gretel!”
“Shhhhhh. Let’s get going now!”
*BANG*
“WHAT WAS THAT”
“I don’t know…”
*BANG*
“There it is again.”
*BANG*
“WE HAVE TO GET OUT! RUN! GET OUT!”
 *CREEK CREEK*
*GASP*
“NOBODY LEAVES THIS HOUSE UNTIL I GET WHAT I DESERVE! SOME FOOD.”
“KEEP RUNNING HANSEL”
 “AHHH I CAN’T MY STOMACHS SO BIG THAT IT’S HARD FOR ME TO RUN”
*THUD*
“HANSEL!!”
“Heh. Got you no-”
*BOING*
“DON’T EVEN TRY TO TOUCH MY KIDS.”
“Delilah?”
“You don’t have to call me that honey. Just call me mom”
“But I thought you hated us when you married our dad.”
“No silly. I just found it awkward because I’ve never had kids before and it was my first time being a mom. But when you went missing I was so worried and I realized that you guys were a big part of my life so I went looking and found this cottage, and when I heard screaming I came in as quick as possible.”
“Wait is that a pan?!”
“Man you knocked her out with a pan?”
“Yep”
“That’s so cool!”
“Thanks. But let’s get rid of this witch once and for all”
 “Wait. Help. Me. Please…”

The Diary

WALT use paragraphs in our writing

This week we had to write a piece of Narrative Writing. We had to have language features, paragraphs, character development and a problem and solution. This piece of writing was free writing and we had to read out our writing and give 2 stars and a wish. 

I have finished my writing and have now updated it!

Here it is!


Lia’s face burned red as she recognized her diary sitting on his desk. How could he…

“What is going on, this cannot be happening” is what Lia squeaked in her mind as she heaved big breaths of air forcing her lungs to breathe. She had just seen her own diary on her crush's desk. That wasn’t good....

As Tom walked into their English class, Lia’s face turned as bright red as a juicy tomato and it seemed to have caught Tom’s attention. As he skipped over to Lia she could feel her heart pumping faster. “Hey Lia! Are you okay?! You look like you’re gonna pass out” said Tom gleefully. This made Lia angry. “You know why I look like this” is what she wanted to yell at him while snatching back what was rightfully hers. Her diary. Which had her confession to liking him there. But she didn’t. She just stared. Not even daring to look him in the eye with the fear of exploding from embarrassment.

“CALM down, and get back to your seats”. Lia was relieved as Tom looked at their teacher and speed walked to his desk. This was the only time she ever liked Mr. Zucchini. He was a wicked teacher after all. “LIA ARE YOU LISTENING?!” screeched a now frustrated teacher. “WHAT, AHHHHH” Lia was so startled by this since she was too concentrated on Tom. 

 THUD.

Laughter could be heard. But there was a kind of distinct silence that was very much apparent. A silence that was coming from the spot where Tom was placed… 

 (“Maybe he isn’t going to make fun of me. Maybe…”) 

THE NEXT DAY 

Walking to school with everyone's eyes on you while whispering and giggling to each other is not a very pleasant thing for people. But this is exactly what Lia experienced as she was trying to make her way to school. She knew why people were looking at her. I mean it’s not easy to look away from someone who has a red mark on their face. 

 IN CLASS 

Walking into Geometry class there he was again. “Is there ever going to be a day where he isn’t in MY class?!” This is what Lia said as she tried to find a seat. After 1 minute of scavenging for a seat and failing Lia was stunned as Tom started calling to her! “LIA! OVER HERE! SIT HERE. COME ON. THERE'S NOWHERE ELSE TO SIT. ARE YOU IGNORING ME. IT LOOKS LIKE YOU’RE IGNORING ME.” Lia was happy but embarrassed at the same time. “He doesn’t have to be so loud does he?” Lia whispered underneath her breath while walking towards him. 

Sitting down next to him she spotted it again. Her diary. Sitting right on the edge of his side of the desk. (“What a bold person. I can’t believe he would be that confident to steal someones diary and just put it right where their eyes can see it.”) “Tsk Tsk Tsk” “Is something wrong,” Tom said. “ No, no. Nothing’s wrong” Lia said while glaring at him. He started to feel uncomfortable now and Lia knew it.

While the lesson was going on she would glance at it on accident and everytime that happened she would feel her breath getting shorter and shorter.
“It’s time I take back what’s mine” Lia was ready. 
“Tom?”
“Yes”
“Can I ask you something?” 
“Sure” 
“I HEAR TALKING” Mrs Lippy was not a nice teacher to. It actually seemed none of the teachers were. Sophie was too scared to keep talking to Tom for the fear she might be put in detention but she needed to know if that was hers.
“Where did you get my- I mean that di- I mean that book from?” Sophie was trying to whisper this while trying to keep in the anger that wanted to be let out badly. 
“Oh this one!?”
 “Yeah..” 
“ It’s not actually mine.” 
“So you stole it?!” 
“No silly! It’s my sisters. I took it from her. Well I kinda did steal it but it was for a good cause.” “What was the cause?!” 
“You see she’s been acting weird lately and so I took her diary to see if she has anything in there that would say it.” 
“WAIT so that’s not mi- I mean yours?!” 
“Yeah. Why would I get something that looks so girly.” 
“ I don’t know. Well thanks for telling me!”

Lia was filled with energy after hearing that the diary she thought was hers was not and now she was sitting next to her crush in class. Could this day get any better!

Walking to her next class. She was surprised when she saw that Tom wasn’t in there today. “MOVE IT” said Mateo pushing through.
“Sorry”
Mateo was known to be a rude person at Springsfield High and he didn’t really care about anybody and always picked on anybody who got in his way. He was the defnition of a bully.

Something brushed past her. It felt solid. Lia just remembered. She still didn’t have her diary. She caught a glimpse at what Mateo was holding. It had a denim cover on it and looked like the exact same diary that she had accused Tom of stealing from her but when she saw this one she knew it had to be hers. Only because it had her name on it.
             This belongs to Lia Parker. RETURN IF FOUND 

 “Wait. Tom wasn’t the one who had it, it was MATEO” Lia just realised that she had accidently taken it to school with her and left it on her desk. Then it was gone. On this same day Lia was taking Calculus. Mateo was in Calculus with her. It was all starting to add up…

More Than A Mountaineer

This week we were reading about Sir Edmund Hillary! If you don't know who this person is, look on a 5 dollar note. Yes he was the first man to climb Mount Everest and got a lot of fame for doing so. 

This week our Synthesis question was to use modern technology to design a more efficient system for getting building equipment up the Himalayan Mountains. This was actually out of 10, 10 being really difficult, 10 because I really didn't get what the question was asking me to do and I still think I didn't do it right but after asking heaps of people this is what I came up with. I hope you like it.

Introducing Squidward Tentacles!

WALT use graphic organisers to plan our writing.

We have been learning about descriptive writing in our class and a couple weeks ago we had to make  a writing piece with a buddy about a character and it could be any character we wanted! Me and my buddy Talia chose...  Squidward Tentacles!

Here we had to write about his personality and anything we actually wanted to write about him but we had to use descriptive words for it, so we were told to use a thesaurus.

 In another of my blog posts we had to use different writing skills for the prompts so at this time we were also doing that so we had to write two sentences that had two different writing skills.  Those parts are highlighted.

Which part was your favorite!?

Squidward is a very grouchy person, in that case when he talks he always has a little touch of attitude in his voice. Squidward is also a very insulting person to add on to the attitude. He is not the type to care about people's feelings. 

 Squidward is quite a musical person. He loves to play the clarinet even though people seem to hate that instrument. Squidward is also an employee at “Krusty Krabs”. Even though he despises his job he still works there, but that doesn’t stop him from showing how much he really feels about it for example, sleeping on the job. 

 Squidward is a squid as it says in his name. He has a rather large nose, that takes up a lot of his face. Squidward is as grey as a stone. Squidward is bald and his head looks like the moon because it has spots on it. Squidward also had a lot of wrinkles from frowning all the time. Squidward usually only wears a shirt and no pants, so, if you were to see him in public he would look very odd and depressing. Spongebob (which is one of Squidward's co workers) makes him die a little inside every time he sees him. 

 He is not a very approachable person. He is arrogant and won’t really follow through with orders. Squidward is also a very classy guy. He likes to keep his house spotless and is actually a very lonely person. ;( 

 To sum it all up Squidward is not a very liked person in the place where he lives, he is a very lousy person and is an attention seeker.

Lava Proof Safe House!

This week we read a book "A Bit Of A Bang" which was about the Big Bang and volcanoes and lava. After we read about it one of the activities that we needed to do was make a volcanic eruption proof shelter for us and our family.


Something I found difficult to do was sow the labels because when I kept taking pictures it was really blurry so I decided to write it with permanent marker instead and it came out a little bit more better.

Writing Prompts

This week we had to make a copy of a slide that had a lot of writing prompts on it and we had to write 1 or 2 sentences to go with it. After writing about 3 for 3 of them we were learning about different writing skills, like, Similes or Metaphors and there were eight of them and we had to write on each one 4 sentences that were using 4 of the skills.

I struggled with this for a while and didn't understand it properly. But after a proper explaining I kind of did it more easily. I hope you like it.

Heilala Flower Prints!

WALT explore different printmaking conventions.

This week our class was participating in a contest that was called the "Festival Of Flowers". We had to make something that had to do with flowers. 

Our class was making prints of the National flower in our Culture!

The first step was to sketch out the flower. Mine was a Heilala flower from Tonga.  After we had finished sketching we had to put it onto a 10 by 10 cm square piece of paper. After doing that we had to then get card and trace over it with the sketch so that it would print onto the card.

When we had done that we had to cut out the pieces and then glue it onto a square cardboard piece the same size as the paper. 


After doing that we had to get ink and a roller and roll the ink onto the prints. We had to work the ink because it was really stick and we had to make sure that it was even before we put it on. We had black and red ink.

After we had to practice first!


Now it was time for the final print...

We had to make six prints on this piece of paper and they had to be different colors every time we did a print.


Somethings that I found hard was when I was printing a lot of the pieces were falling off. But either than that it was really fun making these and I hope that we do it again!








The Big Jump

WALT increase speed when unpacking sentences using ITTM

Here we had to rewrite the ending to the story that we were reading, which was called "The Big Jump".

 Our teacher said that when we do this we could just write it onto the post so that it would be faster. I didn't find anything hard with rewriting it and I actually liked it a lot!

Here it is :)

Climbing up the stairs it felt like going up stairs to my doom! I thought this was going to be exciting but really I nearly peed my pants when I kept climbing higher and higher...

Up there, there was a girl named Sandra, she was the instructor. I hated the idea of going down and everyone seeing that I was scared! She tried to comfort me but it just kept making me think about if something did go wrong, if something did happen to me. She practically just made me more scared to jump off.

Then came Timmy. I embarrassed when I saw him because he would know that I was afraid of heights. I heard them talking but my thoughts were drowning them out. The little voices were saying things, things that didn't really help at all. Things that were to terrifying to even think about. For example DEATH.

Timmy volunteered to go down with me, but I didn't know at the time... I didn't even realize that they were attaching him to me and I finally stopped spacing out when I felt wind on my face and heard someone going "YAAAAYYYY".

I woke up and faced reality. We were going faster than I had ever gone in my life. I felt like I was about to actually pee myself now and I had proven that. By actually doing so...

I got down and didn't realize I had. I blamed it on Timmy for being up there for so long, but everyone saw. Thing is I didn't. Until night time. When Timmy told me himself.

Where Do You Come From?

WALT investigate cultures and traditions within the class.

This week in IL (Integrated Learning) we were looking at cultures and traditions and things like class cultures and what culture and traditions mean to us. After all of this we had to make a slideshow that shared things about our cultures and traditions in our families.

I found this kind of hard at the beginning because I didn't really know what to write but after asking my mum it started to become a lot more easier! I hope you like my slideshow!

Have You Weaved Before?

This story is about a class that learns the process of weaving with the Willow branches and the things that you have to do to complete this. I tried to use all the feedback that was given to me but the one thing I couldn't do was make a picture because I didn't know if I should but here is my Information Web!

Do You Know What Taonga Means?


WALT define and identify our own 'taonga'.

This term for Integrated Learning we are starting to learn about what 'taonga' means. 'Taonga' means something that you treasure or it's like your prized possession, after we read that we had to create a poster that combined all the things that you treasured and that were your 'taonga'.

In my poster I have a Tongan finger print and a New Zealand finger print because I am from Tonga and I was born in New Zealand . I also put a heart because that symbolizes love. Another thing I put is two friends holding hands because friendship is really important to me.

The next thing I put was a family and my family is a family of 8 and I treasure everyone in my family. I also put a USB and a camera because the USB holds all of the videos and pictures that we would take when we were little on the camera so it would be sad if that was lost or destroyed. I also put a cross because that symbolizes my religion. And the last thing is the earth because that's where we live and it would be sad to watch it get destroyed.

I found it difficult at the beginning because I was confused but when they teachers explained it with more depth I found it much more easier than before and finished my work quickly.

Three Significant People In The Early Church

This week we had to choose between 6 people from the early church and we had to write about their role in the church, how did they help the church and why were they significant in the church. We had to read about them and what they were like.

When we had finished reading and picked 3 people that we wanted to do it on we had to make it on Animaker and after we finished we had to Screen Castify it. I chose Stephen, Paul and Peter.

I found it difficult to work on Animaker because it was my first time going on it and I didn't really know how to work things, so some people had to help me but in the end I think I did a good job.

What Is The Water Cycle

Do you know what a Water Cycle is?

This week our reading groups passage was on a Water Cycle and since it was a non fiction piece of writing we had to do an info graphic on it. 

When I was making this I found it not that hard to write about because we have learnt about Water Cycles before. I still have the same feedback on adding more pictures and i think this weeks info graphic has improved with that since there was more space for me to put in pictures as well!

This week is a little different. Our teacher decided that now we won't have anymore shared slideshows. We will just post our things to our blog and the people in our group will just comment on there for feedback.

 This week we read a non - fiction piece of writing about how waterspouts form. Again we had to make an info graphic. 

Here I found it difficult to finish it on time because I was sick but I got it finished! I tried to add in more pictures because that is usually something that I need include more in my info graphics most of the time.

The Clumsy Space Trooper (Collaborative Writing)

In our class we have been doing collaborative writing and we have already posted one of the pieces of writing we did in our group and that was our first time.

This time with the same group we had to go onto this website that could kind of make up  what the story would be about and it was about a clumsy Space Trooper.

There were two people in my group which were Manuk and Jorja then Denise came back from the Philippines and joined our group. First we had to make up the story in a slideshow then we had to put it into another slideshow and make it into a picture book. Here we could draw pictures and put t on here or just get pictures from the internet. we traced most of our pictures but some of them we just got from the internet. 

Something our group found hard was the writing because we kept on making it that Space Trooper was kind of the narrator so we and to change the story a little bit but in the end it was really fun working as a group and making it. Here is our picture book!

So for this week our teacher set up a doc with 7 tasks that were linked with learning Maori or having something else to do with Maori language that we had to do. 

We only had to complete 3 -4 tasks and if we had time could do more.

I chose to do Tasks 1, 4 and 6.

The Machine ( Story Map )



Here you can see that there is no shared slideshow anymore.

Our teacher told us that we will not have shared slideshows anymore and that we have to just post our things on our blog by itself then people in our reading group will have to comment on it. 

Here my feedback from last time I did a Story Map was to be more specific and split my examples and here you can see that I did try to do those things as well.

The Amazing Fat Spider Man

On Thursday we were put into groups to make a piece of writing. For this writing piece we were already given a character, which was a spider, a setting, which was a shoe and a problem, which was the shoe lace. We had to make up our own solution and we all got a slide each to write on. At the end we had to put it all on one slide but it was really hard to fit so it will be kind of hard to see because we tried to make it fit in. There was 3 people in my group. Me (Siale), Manuk and Jorja. This story was easy to come up with but it was kind of hard to write about.

Our problem was that the spider turned into a fat Spider man and got captured by the shoe lace of the shoe.

What Season Do You Fancy?

In class we had to write about the season that we liked the best and for me it was summer. In this piece of writing we had to say all the things we liked about it. At the beginning I was kind of mistaking it for a piece of persuasive writing but we were just saying why we liked the particular seasons so much.  After this we had to make a drawing of what our summer looks like.

So here is my writing and my drawing. (p.s I used the face that I made for my All About Me drawing so it could be more realistic.)

What is your favorite season and why? Mine has to be SUMMER. Even though it’s really hot I still LOVE IT. I don’t really dislike the other seasons I can just do more things in the summer than in the other seasons.

Nearly every single day, we get to go to the pool. Since it is summer and it’s so hot we are able to go to the pool to cool off, and it’s really nice because it only takes about 5 minutes to get there and we always stay there until the pool is about to close. So by the time we leave we are already refreshed.

Do you ever miss family and wish you could see them again? Well summer is a great time for them to come visit! Not to mention that it’s the long school holiday as well. That’s another reason why I love summer because our family comes to visit and sometimes, I wouldn’t have seen them in like 4 years I’m not joking.

Wouldn’t it be awesome to just wake up on Christmas morning and get presents? Well imagine if your birthday was only THREE days after Christmas. Just think of all the food you would have had and the number of presents you would get to. I’m saying this because my birthday is three days after Christmas and I don’t really care about presents it’s mostly just the food I’m there for.

Do you never get to spend time with your siblings or family members? Well summer is the best opportunity to bond with them. This is one of the things that I look forward to because you could do a whole lot of things with them but something that we always do is go to the… MOVIES! I love doing this because you can have a lot of fun watching the movie together and before the movies we always go to the shop and this is also why I love it, because our sisters let us buy WHATEVER we want. After that we go to the arcade and play games there, and it’s just one of the things I really like.

Hold on you might be saying “Ohhh but it’s sooo hot why would you like that” well, you could always just go and eat some ice cream. Not only is this refreshing but is equally delicious. “OH NO. I DON’T HAVE ICE CREAM”. If you open the fridge to find that there is no ice cream and that your brother seemed to devour it all, the weather could be a great excuse for your parents to buy you some, and if they tell you to walk it is also exercise!

Summer is an amazing time for families to bond and to just have a great time together.


Shared Slideshow Wk 6

This week our teacher decided to give us our reading passages before we could see her so that we would have more time to finish the activities because there is a lot of them, and in this time I got to finish this weeks shared slideshow. In this slideshow it is another  Story Web on the passage "Hot Plasma On The Rocks" We also had to comment and give feedback on our Story Webs and my feedback was to split my examples if they are different and to also be more specific when I'm explaining things. Shared Slideshow

In our class for this weeks shared slideshow we had to make an info graphic about the non fiction piece of writing that our reading was reading. Before making an info graphic we had to watch a video about the different types of info graphics there are. An info graphic is like a poster but it has a lot of information in it and pictures. I found it confusing at the beginning and kept on asking people in my group but after a while I was okay. I also had to rush because the people in my group were already finished and wanted to post it. Something that I didn't really get to do was put some pictures in : (


Eucharist Symbol

This week we had to make a symbol about the Eucharist and it had to be one that we made our selves, we also had to choose a verse that went with the symbol. I chose to make a shield because it was like Jesus protecting us and I chose the verse because it was like he won't let us hunger or thirst because he will always be there for us and the night before they had the last supper. The heart on the shield represents Jesus' love for us.

I found it hard to come up with a symbol because I was really confused and still kinda was at the end.

Fractions

WALT use multiplication to find a fraction of a set. In our class we had to make a DLO teaching people about something that we had learnt in our math groups so here i did a DLO on how to use multiplication to find a fraction of a set. I found it really hard to write about because it was hard for me to explain how you are supposed to do it but when it comes to actually doing it in math's it is actually really easy.

In our class at reading time after we had finished some work we had to go onto this shared slideshow for our different groups where our teacher would put a task on for our reading group to do and we would have to do it. The task that we had to do was make a story web. We had to do this on a MindMup. We also had to comment on each others slide which was feed back.   But it wasn't able to be shown on here.

Sacraments Of Initiation

WALT name the three Sacraments of Initiation and their purpose. In our class we had to write about the three Sacraments of Initiation and their purpose.

We had to watch a video teaching us about the sacraments and we also had to read about it to on a website. I found it easy writing about it because the things that we were provided with to help us with our work was really helpful and I learned a lot from it as well. Do You Know How To Use Apostrophes Properly?

In our class we were learning on how to use apostrophes because people in our class seemed to not use apostrophes properly in our writing. We had to watch a video about apostrophes and also do work sheets, after that we needed to make a poster teaching other people on how to use apostrophes with the knowledge that we had learnt about them. This was kind of hard for me because I didn't really understand it that much but in the end I finished it, and also learnt a lot more about apostrophes as well!

The Llama That Stayed Up Too Late

In our class we had to make a Llama and we had to go through four steps to complete it. The four steps were 1. crayons, 2. Dye, 3. Paint, 4. Pastels. After we had finished these four steps our Llama was complete. Now we had to write a story about the Llama that we had created and it could be the steps we had to do to make it or it could be a made up story about the Llama as well. While I was writing this I decided that since my Llama looked angry it would be about how she didn't get enough sleep so she was grumpy. If you were to make a Llama what would it look like? And what would your story be about if you had to write one?

Uggghhh why can’t I at least get another HOUR of sleep! That’s not too much to ask for. Right?

I never get enough sleep and I think it’s unfair. OK maybe I deserve it, I mean I do stay up a lot but still we should at least start school at 1:00 pm. I do need my beauty sleep after all

.Oh my gosh people are starting to say that I look grumpy and I do not take that as a compliment. I am supposed to be the most cheeriest girl llama in school but now that I have to wake up so early, I've been looking more grumpy lately and acting grumpy as well. But it would be wrong to miss an episode of “Fairly Odd Llamas” I ought to be ashamed of myself if I did that.

Two Years Later…

I am known now as the scariest most grumpiest girl of the school. Everyone is scared of me and I have no friends now all because of what I looked like and acted like after staying up. I also got angry at my friends for saying that I looked grumpy so I pushed them away so then I had no friends. Now I have very bad grades to what I used to have. I used to be the top student in class and the teachers favorite but now I’m famous for having low grades and for being very frightening. All I have to say is, never stay up late to watch anything even if it’s your favorite T.V show in the whole entire world. Do not do it.

5 Months Later…

Hey! It’s me again and I’m back to where I used to be I’m now, again, the most cheeriest girl in school and I have got back to having good grades as well. I realized after a month of being scared of, that I didn’t want to be the bad person in school and I missed my friends as well, I also didn’t like how people were scared of me so I changed. I changed my routine and made sure to go to sleep early so that I could wake up early without any hesitation. I then knew that I should’ve apologized to my friends in school so when I went to school I apologized and we made up. Right after that everything started to slowly change and I regained my position as the top student in class and as the most cheeriest girl in school.

T3 Psalms

In Term 3 our teacher (Mrs Lee) did prayers in the morning for two weeks. Each day she would pick a psalm and we would have to read it and find one verse that popped out at us. We would have to write that verse into a doc. We did this every day, and on Friday we would have 5-1 verses and that would be our psalm. Now we had to make a slideshow and write these psalms onto it and post them to our blogs. So here I have 2 Psalms already. This is unfinished because we will be putting new psalms onto our slideshow every week. I really enjoyed doing this because each day we could choose a psalm that showed what we were feeling and sometimes I didn't know what to choose but I soon found a verse that really stood out to me.

There, They're and Their

WALT identify and use homonyms correctly - Part 1

On Tuesday we had a task to make a poster about the meanings of There, They're and Their because they all sound the same but they mean different things and people can get a little mixed up with it when writing and a lot of people in our class did get mixed up, and mostly no one ever used "They're" in their writing. We also had to make some quiz questions so that we can see that you actually learnt something from this poster.

Letter to Mr and Mrs Wormwood

In this post I had to write a letter to Mr and Mrs Wormwood who are Matilda's parents and telll them a little bit about respect. If you got a chance to meet Mr and Mrs Wormwood what would you tell them?

Interviews

WALT ask questions while reading to clarify and focus understanding.

This week we had to read the next three chapters of Matilda which were about Miss Honey, Miss Trunchbull and Mr and Mrs Wormwood. Next we had to interview Miss Honey and Miss Trunchbull and ask them questions and after that we had to think about an answer and for evidence we needed to right down what it said in the story as well.

Miss Honey: I thought that it was quite sweet and it was amazing how she made it up quickly.

Miss Honey: I thought that she was very smart and that what she was saying was also true and that there should be funny bits in children’s books.

The Treaty Of Waitangi

Every year on February 6th everyone in New Zealand celebrates Waitangi Day.

In class we have been learning about Waitangi day and all the key things about it and the whole class had to make a DLO on Waitangi day and what we have learnt about, here are the things that I have learnt so far.
